Collagraphs

Collagraphs are a more modern print medium which allows for experimentation.

A collagraph print is created by printing a plate created by a mixture of collaged, relatively flat materials, which allow the replication of a variety of lines, textures and images. This is achieved by building up layers of low-relief patterns through a mix of modeling media, found, flat objects.

Once sealed and dry, the plate surface can be inked and the image transferred to damp, ultra high quality paper by printing under pressure with an etching press.

Collagraphs are easily identified by their colourful and highly textured character.

Collagraphs by Jo

Jo's exquisite etchings are made on copper or zinc plate. One picture is often made up of multiple plates and printed using the best quality German etching paper. Jo enjoys the unexpected results achieved by the intermixing of colours on the paper. She also sometimes mixes colour on the one plate by a method known as “a la poupee”.

Jo's editions are small and they reflect a sensitivity for the art of etching, producing delicate imagery with emotional undertones.
