Acrylic Monotypes with your Gelli Plate

For anyone with a sense of adventure, at any stage of their artistic career

Be surprised and delighted by what you can achieve using a gel plate and acrylic paints. Extend your monoprint practice using various media on the plate. Build up images by mixing mediums. Create image transfers or painterly monoprints. After your voyage of discovery, create your portable gallery of prints in the form of an artist’s book or a set of cards. This workshop is suitable for anyone with a sense of adventure who has used a Gelli plate before. The one-day workshop on 6 July is an ideal introduction to the skills that will be used in this workshop.

Course Outline:

Gelli printing is a form of monoprinting that uses flexible gelatin based printing plates to create images in layers of texture, design and colour. It is an experimental spontaneous, and fun medium. Easy to learn and somewhat addictive! During this course you will explore the many possibilities of this exciting medium in a fun and fearless manner incorporating textures of found materials, botanical elements, stencils and brush marks.

We will be building on the skills learned at the introductory class. Experiment with transparent vs. opaque paints in creating layers. Push the boundaries further by practising image transfers, using wax resist methods and including some other traditional drawing and painting mediums to build up confidence in using your Gelli plate to layer up more complex images.

At the end of the course we will have sufficient prints to create your own artists book or a set of cards for your resource or your own portable exhibition!!!
