Jo Hollier Newsletter for December 2024
Dear Friends,
Once again I am way behind on sending out studio updates. Commitments and responsibilities arise that have to be juggled and the day to day is often in competition with the arts practice. There are a few things to note and a few things that have kept me inspired to keep up as much as possible. Sorry to say newsletters can filter to the bottom of the to do list sometimes.
Luckily I have been able to fit in some fun tasks to keep the studio ticking over.
2025 Calendar/planner and Desk calendar: These are designed and printed with a lot of assistance from Rachel @mrs.smith. While it may sound a simple task the creation of these is one that always requires a fair amount of time and attention to detail. The first job being the selection of images for each month, formatting them, getting the colour right and choosing the order in which they appear. Last year we went for bird themed images while this year the images are mostly botanical. (a couple of birds slipped in, of course). Next there is paper choice; looking for something which is high in quality, locally made and sustainable as well as the “right” white. Thanks to a resourceful local printer we are using an acid free Australian recycled art card for all my art products. The images are beautiful as small, framed prints and I am always very proud of the product we’ve produced. Before going to final print, proof reading and layout requires a keen eye. Packaging is a continuing issue as we’d like to go plastic free eventually.

INTERNATIONAL PRINT EXCHANGE
In September I participated in an international print exchange. Each artist is asked to create a small edition of 10 in exchange you receive a selection of the prints from 10 different artists. For a start it was a joy to create something small and different and able to be shared but the most exciting part was opening my package of exchange prints to see what I had received. 10 prints from some of my favourite artists from overseas and Australia!! I will definitely do another one next year.
Calendars for 2025 and cards are always available online HERE

Canberra Artists and Patrons Organisation (CAPO) is a volunteer non-profit organisation that has supported the ACT region’s artists for nearly 40 years. Funds are raised at an annual gala auction event where artworks donated by established artists are auctioned. Over the years around $4m has been disbursed in fellowships and awards to artists. I donated a framed print of my Regent Honeyeaters to support our local artists which was sold by silent auction. It was a very successful evening in many ways. I was able to catch up with many old friends and familiar faces. There was lots of fun chatter, and the bidding was competitive.
New stockists: I am very pleased to be joining up with the Little Magpie Gallery, Cowra. Some works are in stock and will be refreshed if needed. 2025 Calendars and cards are also in stock. If you are driving through Cowra pop is to this lovely little gallery. Its right on the main street.
Cards and Calendars are also being stocked at the Belconnen Arts Centre at Emu Bank Belconnen ACT
